Medical Transcription – Practice Makes Perfect

The first time I connected to my machine transcriber and listened to my first medical dictation, I thought “Oh, my god, what I received in myself.” You see, I had no previous experience in the health field and I just had not heard anything like this before.

To make things worse my typing speed is abysmal. In fact, I allow a little secret for my first class typing on my medical transcription course I had the worst typing speed of the whole class…. A shamefully low 19 words per minute.

But I stuck out and for the second consecutive month in my course of my writing is precise speed around 40 words per minute and then things just snowball, within 6 months I was typing 80 words per minute accurately and my speed has increased steadily since then.

Foreigners not the dictates of sound more exotic than ever and has made me understand the language and medical anatomy.

For someone with zero experience in the field of medicine or medical transcription, this was a great achievement.

Therefore, how can I do? With a lot of practice, practice, practice.

Every day I used the incredible Mavis Beacon typing software that my teacher recommended for approximately 10 to 20 minutes.

I wrote down all the medical terms and meanings in different cards. Write them down on cards not only helped me memorize, but also wonders daily practice. I would like to have cards together with the whole world and I went when I had a spare 5 minutes, I glance through them. This done wonders for my memory skills.

And, of course, I had a lot of hands to the actual transcript of medical practice during my course.

If you are considering taking a course in medical transcription, but have been delayed because of fear. I assure you, you probably will not be worse than I at first. If we stick to it and practice it will improve.

I am not particularly proud of my very slow speed typing at that time or my little medical knowledge, but I shared this story with you to encourage and assure you that you can do this.

Therefore, if you think you can do is not hold back her more and go for it. Oh, and one thing and I am very proud of, I finished my course with an average 99.8% higher in my class… J
