The outlook for the medical transcription looks good. It is a lucrative career in demand with great growth opportunities.

If you are thinking of a medical transcription course or are already taking one, this is good news. This means you will have a lot of employment and financial opportunities.

Although medical transcription is projected to grow and remain stable, there are some common concerns among the community MT.

These are the most common.

Speech recognition will replace transcriptionists?

It has been talked about for a long time voice recognition and new software to replace the jobs of MTS. This does not affect you anytime soon. There is an increasing number of issues and concerns with this software. It is not in use in a large establishment and has not yet replaced the need for medical transcription as a whole.

Medical terminology is complex and regulations of patient records are stricter than ever. At present the most accurate way to transcribe these records is trained by the multilateral trading system.

According to the Institute of Medical Records, which actually promotes the use of computerized medical records, current research shows the use of voice recognition in the medical fields is less than 1%.

What about the off-shore transcription?

Some companies are using offshore transcription companies to save money. However, while outsourcing medical transcription to foreign companies can save money, many companies are not following this route.

There are various concerns and problems with outsourcing to foreign firms. MT off-shore companies are not required to comply with HIPAA regulations. This means you do not follow the HIPAA security and privacy guidelines to protect medical records.

In some cases it can be done, but binding agreements required by HIPAA guidelines should be signed. And precautions must be taken so that the data is not sent abroad. Sellers must log on to the U.S. database to do their job, which means that the systems and additional measures must be put in place. This can be expensive and time consuming.

While some companies may find the need to save money is worth these risks, most do not.

I agree with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and believe that the future of medical transcription looks good and there are many opportunities out there for the taking.

However, although the future of MT looks promising, times have changed. MTs of today should start adapting to the ever-changing technology business around it.

The technology exists and is available for us to take our business to the next level. With a few clicks of the mouse, we can build our own web page MT, created a daily online or download files transcript.

Be smart in your business, keep up with the times, adapt to technology and its future prospects will be better than ever.
